• What happens when I arrive in the islands?
Hawaii: You will need to take a taxi or shuttle to our office at 45 Shipman St in Hilo. Note that there is a link to a printable map in the sidebar. After you have secured your reservation, a confirmation email will contain more details concerning your arrival. Very early or late arrivals may require special arrangements.
• Will the propane last for my whole trip or will I have to get it filled?
The propane tank should last for your whole trip, unless you are on an extended stay of 2 or more weeks. If for any reason you do need a refill, there are many propane filling stations conveniently located around the islands.
• Is there a rental surcharge for drivers under 25?
No. As long as you have a valid driver's license and insurance coverage, the standard rates apply.
• Is there a rental surcharge for additional drivers?
No. All members of your party may drive provided they have a valid driver's license and insurance.
• Do you have any problems with theft?
We have had only one incident of theft in 7 years (as of June 2007) where a window was broken while parked in a town. There has not ever been an incident in a campground. Our campers do not look like a typical rental car and so you are not usually targeted by thieves looking for tourists. Also, there is an added benefit of being able to cover all windows with the curtains, keeping everything out of view.
• Are there any "hidden" charges?
There is a $3.00 per day State of Hawaii rental car surcharge, and 4.166% State of Hawaii General Excise Tax.
• What exactly is included in the camper?
We are constantly trying to improve the inventory of items we provide with the camper. For a current list click here.
• What about insurance?
Insurance can be provided by a personal home or auto policy- you must check with your company to be sure that they will extend coverage to a mini-van rental in Hawaii. It is best to purchase a 'binder' from your insurance company- these generally provide you with the best coverage for your rental. If you are unable to provide your own insurance coverage, you will be required to purchase our insurance at $10/day (available on Maui only at his time).
